Wolves’ transfer dealings are set to go right down to the wire with the transfer deadline rapidly approaching, but The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has provided an encouraging update on their pursuit of a striker.
What’s he said?
The west Midlanders have been mooted with a potential double splash as they look to bolster their attacking department with Greek Superleague duo Daniel Podence of Olympiacos and former Norwich City frontman Nelson Oliveira.
There have been many conflicting reports over the past few days as it was suggested at some stage that both deals had hit an obstacle with this report having the latest on the 28-year-old striker, but the Express & Star were quick to relieve fears as they confirmed the move for Podence was still on the table.
And now Spiers has added further fuel to the fire by suggesting that a swoop for Oliveira is also likely to pull through before Friday’s 11pm deadline.
Speaking on The Molineux View podcast today, he said:
“And also Nelson Oliveira as well. Again another Portuguese player from Greece that they are looking to sign, as soon as they can agree on a deal – a fee – with AEK Athens. That should get over the line as well. And I think they’ll be happy with their months’ work if they can get these two deals over the line [Daniel Podence included].”

A sign of desperation?
It is no secret that Wolves need to add players, and that time to do so is wearing thin, but it still shows a sign of pure desperation from those at the club.
The club have left their business late, resulting in a final few days worth of scrambling to get the deals over the line. Had they organised this earlier in the month, then they probably wouldn’t be in this predicament.
For true Wolves fans only: How much did each of these players cost?
It also shows that they have no other target in mind in terms of finding a striker, other than the £6m Oliveira who is owned by, you guessed it, super-agent uncle Jorge Mendes.
His record in English football is hardly inspiring – scoring just once in ten Premier League matches – so this one reeks of failure to plan carefully following Patrick Cutrone’s departure. It has left Nuno Santo with just one fit striker in Raul Jimenez.
And in other news, this Wolves transfer target could leave Hull this week says his current boss…
