According to reliable Newcastle United reporter Keith Downie, the Magpies are not in for Bournemouth’s David Brooks.
The Lowdown: Toon linked to Brooks
The Magpies have been linked with a move for Brooks during this transfer window, as per The Telegraph.
However, an update has now been provided on the Wales international, and it is not good news for any fans who wanted him to make the move to Tyneside.
The Latest: NUFC not after Brooks
Sky Sports’ Downie has provided an update on the future of the £14.4m-valued Bournemouth man (Transfermarkt).
He says that, contrary to other reports, the Magpies are not interesting in taking the winger to St. James’ Park, tweeting: “Understand Newcastle aren’t in for Bournemouth winger David Brooks, despite reports elsewhere.”
The Verdict: Poor window for Newcastle
If you discount Joe Willock, who made his transfer to the Toon permanent after spending the second half of last season on loan, there has not been any new arrivals at Newcastle this summer, a truly disastrous situation.
Brooks, with 21 career goals to his name and described by Chris Mepham as a player possessing “tonnes of ability” (Bournemouth Echo), could have been a fantastic capture for the Magpies.
Many of the supporters are also on Steve Bruce’s back, giving him plenty of stick so far this season (Chronicle Live). While Mike Ashley is of course partly to blame for this situation as well, the absence of any late business will not help the manager’s approval rating.
In other news, Bruce has made this bizarre transfer decision.
