Elsewhere, Glen Chapple’s 102 for Lancashire was in vain as Kent passed the required target of 88 to win only three wickets down, while Worcestershire recorded a comfortable nine-wicket win against Northants. In Division Two, yesterday’s late collapse from Essex, prompted by Darren Lehmann’s 4 for 35, gave Yorkshire an easy win at Chelmsford. Glamorgan overpowered Somerset, despite a century from Ian Blackwell, by eight wickets at Swansea, and Leicestershire beat Derbyshire by six wickets at Oakham School.
