Cricinfo staff14-Oct-2005Glamorgan chairman Paul Russell has warned that the county may quit Cardiff after the local council objected to a new arena at Sophia Gardens. The news means that Glamorgan’s ‘Test for Wales’ bid to bring Tests to Cardiff by 2013 is in tatters. They are considering a move to Swansea or Rhondda Cynon Taf.”This decision is enormously disappointing; our plans are in disarray,” Russell told the website. “This decision effectively means we cannot make progress to improve Sophia Gardens as a whole and redevelop our ground.”We meet next Thursday to consider everything, even relocating Glamorgan CC elsewhere. We have had approaches from Swansea and Rhondda Cynon Taf. A move could prove advantageous.”Glamorgan have played at Sophia Gardens since 1967, taking up the lease in November 1995. It was the venue for Bangladesh’s stunning five-wicket win over Australia in June this year.
